Daughter of Hit and Run Victim Begs Judge To Punish Driver | News

SANTA MARIA, Calif.- Months after a local man and his dog are run over and killed by a car, the victim's daughter breaks her silence and begs a judge to punish the driver responsible.
"I hate the way he was taken, it was really unfair," said Yolanda Diaz, Frank Diaz Jr.'s daughter.
It was February 5, 2013. What was supposed to be a quick run around the block turned deadly for Frank Diaz Jr. and his boxer, Billy.
"I feel sad that I'm even having to even be here," said Yolanda as she stood next to the crash site.
Three months later, the pain is still very much alive for his daughter Yolanda Diaz.
"I was at a loss for words, couldn't stop crying," she said.
Yolanda wants to make sure the driver, Alvino Corona, 19, pays for what he's done. At the time, Corona and his wife were driving on the 2100 block of North Blosser Road around 7pm when they hit Diaz and his dog. Then lost control of their car, crashed into a fence, then ran from the scene, only to return an hour later.
"He was going at speeds between 74 and 86 miles when he struck my dad," explained Yolanda.
Corona is charged with vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and is facing misdemeanor hit and run charges and a misdemeanor for allegedly being an unlicensed driver.
"The DA is wanting to go towards the five year enhancement plus the four year. Now probation off their pre-plea report, they're recommending just five years probation one year jail time. That makes me angry," said Yolanda.
Yolanda claims she spotted Corona driving last week in a truck, allegedly with his learner's permit. Since then, the judge has ordered Corona not to drive.
"We're all praying that the judge makes the right decision," she said.
Corona is out of custody and is expected to be back in court Thursday. Central Coast News reached out to the judge and deputy district attorney for a comment, but because the case is still open, they are not allowed to discuss any details at this time.
